BLENDING TEA

How do our tea experts know when a perfect cup of tea is perfect?

blending tea

Like wine, the taste and flavour of tea depends on lots of different factors. Even if two batches of tea come from the same tea garden, they can have very different tastes.

Tea gardens are so vast, they can vary greatly in soil, topography and shade, which can all affect a tea's flavour - even the time of day the leaves were picked has an effect.

But regardless of all of this, our tea experts need to be able to recreate Twinings blends exactly, time and time again. That's why we have 'rolling production samples'. These are master-blends of all our teas that give our tea experts the ultimate standard to check new blends against. So even if a particular sample of tea isn't available, or something has affected a certain crop, our blenders can still use their skills to create the perfect cup.

Once our tea has been blended, big batches of them are made up and either packed into tea bags, or left as loose teas. Samples of these are then sent back to our blenders for yet another taste test to make sure that the blend has been created exactly as they wanted.

When our tea experts are finally happy, the tea is ready to go. Last year, 48,733,979 crates of Twinings tea were sold to tea lovers around the world!
