benefits of mindfulness - and how you can start to achieve it in
just 10 minutes.
What is 'mindfulness'?
Essentially, it's about being present in the moment. It would be
wonderful if the mind sat still every time the body stopped moving,
but it's really not as straightforward as that. There are very
specific techniques that need to be followed to get the desired
peace and quiet, which is where learning meditation techniques can
help.
But doesn't meditation involve a
substantial lifestyle commitment?
Just like any other skill, it requires regular, daily practice
if you're going to see the best results. But it's important to
remember that it's about quality rather than quantity. That's why
we have created the Take 10 programme - a free introductory series
to meditation that takes just 10 minutes a day for 10 days. It's on
the Headspace website (getsomeheadspace.com). Just put it on, sit
back and relax.
What are the benefits of becoming more mindful?
Extensive scientific research has consistently shown that even a
short amount of daily meditation can have a major impact on
physical, mental, and emotional health. The more we experience
peace of mind, the more likely we are to engage in it again and
again. Mindfulness techniques help us develop the ability to remain
present in (and therefore enhance) every activity we do. Try using
it with something as simple as using the 10 minutes it takes you to
