Why Take 10?
Nearly 9 out of 10 women think it is important to have regular me-time
but don't seem to manage to find it
Following on from the research into the importance of Taking
10 minutes out of your daily routine, we have pulled out a couple
of the key outcomes, and we spoke to Louise Chunn, editor of
Psychologies Magazine about her thoughts:
"Everybody knows they ought to take some time out for
themselves. More than 4 out of 5 women have said that it's
important to have regular me-time. But do they take it? No. Fewer
than half of the women asked achieved the simple aim of time
to themselves once a week or more.
- 82% of women think it is important to have regular
me-time.
- Yet less than half (47%) actually achieve this once a week or
more.
- However those who take regular me-time report feeling more
confident (64%) and happier (78%) than those who don't.
It's the time bit that defeats us. We all know how hard it is to
carve spare minutes out from our daily lives, whether it's a job or
family that is filling up our hours. But for those who do make
regular breaks happen, it makes them feel more confident (64%) and
happier (78%) than those who don't.
Part of the problem is that so many women don't put a high
enough value on their time. They need to be pushed and cajoled into
being what they see as "selfish". Of course, looking after
yourself, by taking the pressure off even for a short time, isn't
remotely selfish. Me-time is a pressure-valve that will bring you
back to your normal day being energized, soothed and feeling that
you are at the centre of your life, rather than a cog in a
relentlessly humming machine."
