Ceylon Orange Pekoe (International Blend) - 25 Envelopes

£3.00 sku ICOP0614-25

Back in the 1860s, when Sri Lanka was called Ceylon, the island's economy was in crisis. The coffee crop had failed, and there was only one thing for it: to grow tea instead. But no one could have imagined how light or fresh that tea would be. After one sip of the amber liquid, the islanders' thirst was quenched. And coffee was forgotten forever.

This blend is made especially for our international business - the leaf grade being "orange pekoe", which means that the tea contains long pointed leaves that have been harvested just after the end buds open into leaf.

INGREDIENTS

Black tea from Sri Lanka

BREWING INSTRUCTIONS

We believe that how you make your tea is equally as important as the tea you use, so here's how we like to make our tea.
  • Use freshly drawn cold water
  • Use water at a “rolling boil” around 100oC
  • Use 1 teabag per cup or 1 teabag per person in a teapot
  • Steep for 3 to 5 minutes (or to your taste)
  • Very versatile - great with or without a touch of milk
  • A light citrus character means it's perfect cooled and iced!
And, for freshness every time, keep your tea somewhere cool, dark, dry and airtight!

About Black Tea

Black tea, just like green tea, comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant.

After plucking, the leaves are laid on drying trays & withered to remove some moisture and to make them more pliable.

The leaves are then rolled and may be cut

"Broken" leaves are laid out & a heady mixture of warm air, aromatic juices, bacteria & enzymes leads to oxidation (a natural reaction that affects strength & colour)

Oxidation is stopped by firing the leaves with hot air until they are the right (brown) colour depending on the region as the leaves dry they turn black.

Excellent

I drink tea without milk and once I discovered Orange Pekoe whilst in America I was hooked. Had difficulty getting it in the UK so was delighted to find Twinings online. The tea is delicious and refreshing.
