The Coronation Meadows Collection by Burleigh

Established in 1851, Stoke-on-Trent based pottery Burleigh - Burgess & Leigh - is the last working Victorian pottery in the UK.

The Coronation Meadows Collection was inspired by HRH The Prince of Wales's project with the same name.

Established in 1851, Stoke-on-Trent based pottery Burleigh - Burgess & Leigh - is the last last working Victorian pottery in the UK. Every piece of their beautiful and uniquely handcrafted collections is made using the original machinery and skills that have been handed down through generations of craftsmen.

The Process

Burleigh use English earthenware clay and is the last remaining pottery in the world to use under glaze tissue printing. This process was invented about 200 years ago in England.

The Coronation Meadows Collection

HRH The Prince of Wales set up the Coronation Meadows project in order to establish wildflower meadows consisting of plants local to that region in every county across the UK. As soon as the meadows are matured, seeds are handed out so that for more meadows can be sown elsewhere. The project was inspired by the Wild Flower Meadow at Highgrove which was established more than 30 years ago. The meadows are not only a beautiful feature in the British landscape but also support bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Over the last 75 years, 97% of meadows have been lost and it is essential for Britain’s wildlife that they are re-established.

The Coronation Meadows project has been the inspiration for a beautiful range of tableware. Burleigh is proud to present the exclusive Coronation Meadows collection in conjunction with Highgrove.

Design

Middleport Pottery

The Princes Regeneration Trust recognised the historical and local significance of the large historic Grade II Middleport Pottery building and stepped in to save and regenerate it.

Burleigh are renting half of the pottery premises for their iconic Victorian tableware production.
