Twinings Does Coffee - Flavours, Strength, Decaf & How to Use a Cafetière

Steeped for over 300 years, you’ll be surprised to know that our love of coffee goes back almost as far as our love for tea! From decadent Decaf to everyday Enlivenment we explore the best coffee for you and share our favourite way to make that perfect cup at home.

Catherine of Braganza

In order to understand how a traditional tea company like Twinings does coffee, you’ll need to delve into the beautifully blended history of ours! Back in the early 1700s when our very own Thomas Twining left the glorious Gloucestershire countryside for the big sights of London, he saw the increasing popularity of the London coffee houses, much like the super cool and trendy coffee spots of today!

The London coffeehouses were a place for men to meet, to drink, to gossip and do business, and being the shrewd businessman that he was, Thomas decided to purchase a coffee house on the Strand, which is still there today, where he also sold tea and transformed the landscape of tea. But ‘technically’ it officially started with a cup of joe.

As you can see, our love of coffee has come full circle with the launch of our rich and delicious coffee blends. Believing that the secret to a great cup of coffee is all in the right ingredients and the art of blending and balancing daring and different flavours.

BLENDED TO PERFECTION

No matter how much of a rush you’re in, there’s always time to squeeze in a cup of coffee before you dash out the door and if you’re going to savour just one strong cup you’ll want to make sure it’s our Intense and Enlivening Coffee. Made from a mix of Brazilian, Zambian, and Kenyan coffee beans its full-bodied, rich taste packs that perfect punch to truly set you up for the day ahead.

Take our Rich and Velvety Coffee, which is exactly as it says on the tin. A rich and deep flavour that blends Brazilian, Sumatran Lintung and Kenyan coffee beans to create this sophisticated and velvety taste. Ideal as an after-dinner coffee to accompany a decadent dessert or something sweet.

And, if you want to indulge in the delicious cup of coffee without the caffeine then our Deep and Delicious Decaffeinated Coffee maintains the depth of flavours whilst ensuring you still get a restful sleep. A medium-roasted blend of Brazilian, Columbian and Ethiopian Sidamo beans that is, well, deeply delicious!

HOW TO ENJOY THE PERFECT CUP OF TWININGS COFFEE?

Twinings 216 Strand tea bar

Whether you’re kick-starting your day with a cup, reviving with an afternoon pick-me-up or savouring the sweet taste of an after-dinner-delight, a Cafetière is the best way to enjoy the perfect cup of Twinings coffee.

Simply:

  • Boil the kettle and let it rest for just a minute (to stop the coffee ground from burning).
  • Weigh out your coffee - we recommend around 7g-10g per cup and add 125ml of water per cup.
  • Add half the water and stir the coffee grounds.
  • Top up with the rest of the water.
  • Add the lid but don’t plunge it down yet! Set a timer and leave it for around four minutes.
  • Slowly plunge whilst holding the handle - slow and steady!
  • Pour and drink.
