Low Grown Ceylon

£7.00 sku LTFSL0614-125L | Net weight: 125g

Loose Leaf Black Tea

Origin

The low-lying coastal Ruhuna region of southern Sri Lanka, so important to the culture of the island, is a land of fertile, mineral rich soil, warm climate and high humidity.  Teas grown here grow quickly and as a result have rich, robust character.

Tea Description

This very dark Flowery Orange Pekoe tea has attractive dark twisted leaves that when brewed delivers a very full bodied, thick and malty liquor.  Deep red in colour, the flavour is smooth and rounded with tasty roasted notes.

Excellent

Make sure you follow the brewing instructions on the website page to get the most out of this one, as the leaves can burn and spew tannin if you pour fresh boiling water on them. You can combat this with milk if you're impatient.

Aside from being surprisingly delicate for a black tea, when brewed correctly you get a delicious flavour best described as a 'savoury tang'. This note is distinct enough to not get lost in tea blends either so you can get adventurous with this tea pretty quickly.

I reliably get a minimum of three brews from this tea.

Shipping costs a bit high. If it were not for the discount I usually receive in spring, purchasing on the internet would not be convenient. For the same reason, I am compelled to place one big order per year. This means that it could happen that I can't find some of my favourite teas: in fact, this year I had to buy Lapsang Souchong in bags because Lapsang Souchong Loose was no ore available. And when it is available again, I won't be able to place an other order just for that because of the above mentioned high shipping costs.

Very underrated variant and an absolute bargain. This is Low Grown Sri Lankan tea (the site does not yet clarify this) and manages to be flavourful and rich without being prone to tannin overload - you probably don't need milk for this one. Good for at least two brews, too.
